Unknownシリーズの基本テーマは、3.11以降の予測もしていなかった未来に踏み出すことにあります。

2011年8月、カトウチカの呼びかけにより、幾人かのアーティスト達が集まって始まりました。3.11以降、小さくても自分たちの手で、表現の新しい場を作る必要があると考えたのです。

毎回、複数のアーティストでテーマを共有し、新作をメインに発表していますが、一過性のものではなく定期的に開催することで、長期的な考察と展開を目指しています。


The basic theme of the Unknown series is to take a step toward the unpredicted future in the post-3/11 world.

I, Chika Kato proposed to hold the Unknown series in August 2011, and the series began with several artists who supported my ideas. After the 3/11 earthquake disasters, I felt the need for artists to create a new site of expression with our own hands no matter how small the scale might be.

For each show in the Unknown series, a number of artists share a fixed theme. Participating artists mainly show new works. By holding exhibitions at regular intervals, my aim is to undertake a long-term contemplation on the state of the world, and to develop this ongoing series.

【キュレーション】 カトウ チカ
2002年東京藝術大学美術学部卒業。現実の空間にイメージと虚構のかすかなサインをインストールしていって、ゆるやかなイメージと思考のネットワークを編んでいく。｢見えること｣と｢見えないこと｣の間を往復する。イメージを運ぶものを集めたり、捨てたり、密かに置き換えたりしながら。 2010年は、NADiff Window Gallery で個展｢Surface｣、ロンドンのTate Modernで開催されたイベント｢No Soul for Sale｣にCollective Parasolとして参加。Unknownシリーズにおいては、アーティストとしてのキュレーションを展開している。

Chika Kato, Curator
In 2002, Kato graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts. She adopts subtle indications of images and fictions into a real space, and then weaves a network composed of moderate images and ideas. By going back and forth between her theme of "able to see," she gathers, abandons, and stealthily replaces elements that can transport images. In 2010, she held the solo exhibition Surface at NADiff Window Gallery, Tokyo. Also in 2010, she participated in No Soul for Sale, held at Tate Modern in London, as a member of the group Collective Parasol. As one of her artistic activities, Kato curates the ongoing Unknown exhibition series.
